CONFIDENTIAL, EASILY ACCESSIBLE AND FLEXIBLE SERVICE
MAPT offers a confidential service and strives to make it as accessible as possible to people from all walks of life, all over Northern Ireland. It offers the option of self-referral as well as accepting referrals from the usual sources e.g. GPs, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, other health care professionals, Solicitors, employers, etc.
MAPT has clinics at the North West Independent Hospital, Ballykelly and at Ballymena Business Centre on the outskirts of Ballymena. In some cases it may be possible to see clients in their homes or in other locations throughout Northern Ireland but this depends on the reason for attending and would generally be for those people who have been referred rather than self-referrers.
MAPT recognises that it is not always possible to attend for assessment or therapy during normal office hours so evening and weekend appointments can be available. However, these are in demand.
PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT AND THERAPY
MAPT offers psychological assessment and a range of evidence based therapies to people with problems such as depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, sexual and other forms of abuse, generalised anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, phobias, stress, bereavement etc.
MEMORY ASSESSMENT AND AVICE ON COPING
Memory assessments are offered to anyone who is very worried about their memory or other cognitive difficulties they may be experiencing. Such people may have had a head injury, stroke or other neurological condition and may be struggling with day to day activities or with holding down their job. They may be someone who has a family history of memory problems and worries that they too have them e.g. where there is a family history of dementia (Alzheimer's Disease, Vascular Dementia etc.).
Following assessment advice on coping with identified difficulties will be given whenever possible.
MEDICO-LEGAL ASSESSMENTS AND REPORTS
This includes preparing medico-legal reports for personal injury, clinical negligence, employment tribunal, mental capacity cases etc.
Court-directed treatment using a variety of psychological therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) for a range of emotional disorders e.g. PTSD, Depression, Anxiety etc is also offered.
It is not necessary for the client to attend either MAPT's Ballykelly or Ballymena clinics for medico-legal assessment. If required home visits can be carried out across Northern Ireland. Weekend and evening appointments are also possible.
A short turnaround time for producing reports is assured. We aim to produce reports within 10-20 working days from completion of assessment for the majority of cases This is obviously dependant upon the complexity of the case.
